Yankees Sign Pitcher Max Fried to 8 Year $218 Million Dollar Deal

After losing the Juan Soto sweepstakes, the New York Yankees began the unfurling of Plan B. Step one of The Great Bronx Pivot is an eight-year, $218 million contract with former Atlanta Braves southpaw Max Fried. The deal is the fourth-largest ever for a starting pitcher and the largest in MLB history for a left-hander.
Fried, who turns 31 in January, boasts the single lowest ERA in baseball since the start of 2020. Less reliant on strikeouts than other frontline hurlers, the two-time All-Star is elite at two other very valuable skills: avoiding hard contact and conjuring a parade of groundouts. That, alongside a track record of pinpoint control, means Fried carries a uniquely high floor.

Originally drafted seventh overall by the San Diego Padres out of an L.A.-area high school in 2012, Fried was dealt to Atlanta in 2014 as part of the prospect return for Justin Upton. Across parts of eight seasons with the Braves, the left-hander established himself as one of the sport’s more dependable starting pitchers. He finishes his Atlanta tenure with a sparkling 3.07 ERA in 884 1/3 innings.
For the Yankees, signing Fried will not single-handedly erase the shattering disappointment of losing Soto, but it’s a strong start.

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams Lead Jets to Solid Win Over Jaguars

Sunday’s game for the New York Jets, in Week 15 of the 2024 season, may have been the first time this year they’ve produced a solid win. A real, convincing victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars 32-25.
The Jaguars and Jets have both lost several close games in 2024. But, as Sunday’s game entered the fourth quarter with New York up by one point, something had to give.

In a game that meant very little for the standings, the Jets found a fourth-quarter way to win as Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers rolled back the clock. Adams ended up with 198 yards and two touchdowns and set up Breece Hall’s game-winning touchdown run, final score, 32-25.

One unexpected source of offense was Rodgers’ legs. Rodgers, who ended up with 289 passing yards and three touchdowns, was also the Jets’ leading rusher as he racked up 45 yards on scrambles, including three first downs with a season-long 18-yarder.
Adams went without a catch in the first half with one deep ball off his fingertips and another throw dropped over the middle. However, Rodgers found him on the first play of the second half and he had five catches, including a touchdown in the third quarter. The touchdown was the 100th touchdown catch of Adams’ career and No. 101 came on his deep catch from Rodgers to give him his second straight 100-yard game.

Mike Tyson Breaks Silence On Controversial Netflix Jake Paul Spectacle

Hall of Famer and former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson broke his silence on his loss to social media influencer Jake Paul during an eight-round boxing exhibition as part of Netflix‘s live controversial streaming debut for the sport.
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for the fight. No regrets to get in the ring one last time.”

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in the hospital and had to get healthy: so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”

Jake Paul, 27, scored 80-72, 79-73, 79-73, over Tyson, 58, during the highly-anticipated event at AT&T Stadium. Fans were livid by the fight itself, which many online deemed to be boring and a cash-grab, as well as Netflix’s streaming issues throughout the night, with the service trending as many customers experienced buffering issues.
Tyson, the youngest boxer to ever win a heavyweight title and one of the most dominant ever in the weight class, went 50-6-2 (44 KO) in 58 career professional fights prior to the Netflix loss.

Jets Fall to Dolphins in Overtime

The New York Jets blew an eight-point, fourth-quarter lead and lost 32-26 in overtime to the Miami Dolphins.
The New York Jets were never going to the make it to the 2024 NFL postseason heading into Sunday. Now, after Week 14, it’s official.

The Jets (3-10) lost 32-26 to the Miami Dolphins (6-7) in overtime. It was another outing where New York showed promise, but they coughed up the lead late again en route to a defeat.
Now the Jets are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs… even though realistically that hope has been gone for awhile.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and receivers Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams played well.
Sanders missed his lone PAT attempt but was four-of-four on field goal tries.
The Dolphins are 6-7 while the Jets are 3-10 and eliminated from postseason contention.

Seattle Seahawks Beat the New York Jets 26-21

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t have a perfect day, and neither did their opponent, the New York Jets. But in the end, Geno Smith’s homecoming in New York was a triumph for the Seahawks, as they gutted out a 26-21 win over a Jets team that has gotten use to losing.

Both teams had big plays. For starters, we finally saw the Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams connection that was promised after the Jets traded for Adams. On the other side of the ball, special teams players for the Seahawks were collectively out to lunch, fumbling three kickoffs and allowing the Jets to score on a 99-yard TD return. The Jets had 21 points by halftime.

But it seemed like the Seahawks might have a little magic in them today. Midway through the second quarter, with the Jets at the Seahawks’ 10-yard line, Rodgers threw an interception right to Seattle DE Leonard Williams. The big man ran it all the way back for a touchdown.

After halftime, both teams had trouble scoring, but the Seahawks finally broke through with around five minutes left in the game. The offense drove them ahead 26-21, and in the final minute, the defense stopped the Jets on fourth down. The Jets didn’t score a single point after halftime.
