  • Super Bowl LIX: Chiefs in Rare Territory As They Eye Historic 3rd Straight Championship

Super Bowl LIX: Chiefs in Rare Territory As They Eye Historic 3rd Straight Championship

The Kansas City Chiefs are in historic territory.

The Chiefs, thanks to a wild 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game on Sunday night, clinched their spot in Super Bowl LIX. They’ll take on the Philadelphia Eagles — who rolled over the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship game in New Orleans.

If the Chiefs can lift the Lombardi Trophy, it’ll mark their third straight Super Bowl win. No team in NFL history has ever won three straight. Very few have even had the opportunity to do so. Kansas City is the first team to actually reach the Super Bowl after winning the game two straight times.

Before the Chiefs, only eight other teams in NFL history won back-to-back Super Bowls. The New England Patriots were the most recent team to do so in the 2005 season. Of those eight teams, only three of them made it to their conference championship game the following season to have a chance at making it to a third. They all lost.

The three-peat is so rare in American professional sports in general. The last major men’s professional team to win three straight championships was the Los Angeles Lakers. They won three consecutive NBA titles from 2000-02.

Kansas City Chiefs Clinch Fifth Super Bowl Appearance In Six Years

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 218 yards and one touchdown on 16 of 24 passing, while also recording 45 yards and two touchdowns on nine rushing attempts, including a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Mahomes connected with wide receiver Xavier Worthy — who finished Sunday’s game with a team-best six receptions for 85 yards — on an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a 35-yard field goal with 3:33 remaining in the fourth quarter to break a 32-29 tie.

Kansas City stopped Buffalo on its final offensive possession by forcing a turnover on downs with 2:00 remaining in the game, forcing the Bills to use all three of their timeouts on the final drive. The Chiefs will face the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which took place two years prior.

The Chiefs look to become the first franchise in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, having already won three in the last five years.

  • Where Do The Mets Stand In Pete Alonso Contract Talks?

Where Do The Mets Stand In Pete Alonso Contract Talks?

Alonso and the Mets are currently far apart in talks, with a sizable gap between what the first baseman wants and what the Mets are offering right now.

The two sides are far enough apart that the Mets have considered other options at first base. One move could involve moving third baseman Mark Vientos to first and letting younger players like Brett Baty try to lock down the third base job.

The Mets, like many teams, are not prioritizing a need for power as much, which is hurting Alonso’s market. Alonso is also coming off a down year by his standards, as he hit .240 with 34 home runs in 2024. Setting aside the shortened 2020 season, that is the lowest single-season home run total of his career.

  • Lions Shocked By Commanders In Crushing 45-31 Loss

Lions Shocked By Commanders In Crushing 45-31 Loss

It was hoped that things could be better in a few years. Not hope that as a rookie Daniels would lead the Commanders to their first NFC championship game in 33 years.

The Commanders pulled off one of the biggest upsets in divisional-round history, beating the Detroit Lions 45-31 to advance to the NFC championship game while delivering Detroit one of the most crushing losses in recent memory.

Detroit, which went 15-2 in the regular season and needed to win just two home games to make the first Super Bowl in franchise history, is out. The Commanders are moving onto the NFC title game for the first time since the end of the 1991 season. They’ll face either the Philadelphia Eagles or Los Angeles Rams on the road.

  • Five Guys Put Its Most Popular Secret Item on the Main Menu

Five Guys Put Its Most Popular Secret Item on the Main Menu

In fact, that’s how Five Guys customers have been creating their version of a patty melt. They just order a grilled cheese sandwich and an individual burger patty and  assemble the sandwich later. This has become such a popular menu hack that Five Guys has added it to the regular menu, and it seems that it may be more affordable than the hack itself.

Five Guys announced, “We saw how much our fans love the Patty Melt menu hack, so we decided to make it official! If you don’t see it on the menu in your store, just ask the crew for a Patty Melt.

According to the Five Guys website, the Patty Melt features “a burger patty in between slices of American-style cheese melted on a toasted, inside-out sesame seed bun with toppings of your choice.”
