Tampa Bay’s Barrett Suffers Torn Achilles

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett will miss the remainder of the 2022 NFL season due to a torn Achilles suffered in Thursday night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens

An MRI has now confirmed a torn Achilles. He is out for season.

Barrett was carted off the field during the third quarter of the Buccaneers’ 27-22 loss.

The 29-year-old finished Thursday’s game with four tackles — three for loss — and one sack.Barrett signed a four-year contract extension worth $72 million ($36  million guaranteed) with the Buccaneers in March 2021, several weeks after winning Super Bowl LV, having previously won Super Bowl 50 as a member of the Denver Broncos.

LeBron James Shares Thoughts On When He Will Retire

LeBron James is playing at a very high level, so the idea of him retiring in the near future is something most fans have not thought about. The four-time MVP hasn’t given it much thought, either.

LeBron just turned 37. After he recorded a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a win over the Houston Rockets, he was asked if he has any idea how much longer he might play. He acknowledged that he is “on the other side of the hill” in his career, but James said he hasn’t thought much about retirement because he’s playing at such a high level.

“I’m still playing at such a high level, I haven’t given it too much thought,” James said. “But I’m in Year 19 and I’m not gonna do another 19. So I’m definitely not halfway in my career. I’m on the other side of the hill. So, we’ll see where the game takes me.”

“We’ll see where my body takes me and my mind. As long as my mind stays fresh and my body stays with that, I can play the game. But, in the end, the game will tell you. Your body will tell you. Your mind will tell you.”

  • Jets Win Fourth Straight Beating Broncos

Jets Win Fourth Straight Beating Broncos

The red-hot New York Jets defeated the Denver Broncos 16-9 at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, improving to 5-2 with their fourth straight victory. The Broncos dropped their fourth straight game and fall to 2-5.

Both offenses started off slowly, but the Jets’ Breece Hall ended that with a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Hall would later go down with a knee injury and was lost for the remainder of the game. The Jets reportedly suspect an ACL injury.

The Broncos started Brett Rypien at quarterback with Russell Wilson injured. He led a long drive that ended in a two-yard score from Latavius Murray, but  a missed extra point.

The Broncos made a 44-yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead in the second quarter. The Jets later hit three fields goal of their own and the Jets defense shut down the Broncos to seal the win.

A fourth-down stop with less than a minute left in the game made the Jets’ victory official.

  • Sports Illustrated Predicted Six Wins For Jets In 2022

Sports Illustrated Predicted Six Wins For Jets In 2022

It’s that time of year when game predictions, Super Bowl predictions, all that good stuff come flying out the window, only to be completely blown up within the first few weeks of the season.

Nonetheless, we all try to put our thinking caps on and gaze into our crystal ball to see how the season will play out. That’s what Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr recently did, predicting all 272 games of the regular season. And his prediction for the Jets may make some folks a little upset.

Orr has the Jets finishing 6-11 this season, last in the AFC East. That includes a predicted five-game losing streak through their Weeks 5 through 9 stretch against the Dolphins, Packers, Broncos, Patriots and Bills, putting the Jets at 2-7 going into their Week 10 bye.

Orr does have New York winning three straight at the end of the season against the Lions, Jaguars and Seahawks before finishing the season with a loss to the Dolphins.

  • Giants Upset Packers 27-22

    Giants Upset Packers 27-22

The Giants have shown remarkable grit and determination this season. They took that fighting spirit overseas to London and showed an international audience — and the Packers, from Green Bay, Wisc. — that this is a new and quite improved Giants operation

The Giants trailed 17-3 in the second quarter and 20-10 at halftime against Aaron Rodgers and it looked as if this would not be a fruitful  trip across the pond for coach Brian Daboll’s club. What transpired in the second half was stunning. The Giants on defense pitched a shutout. Daniel Jones gutted out yards and points. Saquon Barkley was forced out with a shoulder injury and returned.

Barkley scored the game-winning touchdown with 6:08 remaining and then turned the game over to their largely no-name defense. Rodgers moved the Packers to the Giants’ 7 yard line but on fourth down his pass was deflected up and into the air by blitzing safety Xavier McKinney. The ball fell harmlessly to the grass at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with 1:11 remaining and soon after the Giants secured an improbable 27-22 comeback victory.

Barkley ran 13 times for 70 yards. Jones, playing despite a sprained left ankle, was incredibly resilient. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 217 yards and ran 10 times for 37 yards. The Giants limited the damage and Rodgers was held scoreless in the second half.

Jets Young Stars Shine, Beat Dolphins 40-17

The New York Jets moved to 3-2 with an impressive victory over the Miami Dolphins, 40-17. It was the Jets first win over an AFC East team in 13 tries.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was out this week with a concussion, and backup Teddy Bridgewater on the first play from scrimmage suffered an elbow injury along with a potential concussion and was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to the NFL’s new protocols. Seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson took over in his stead.

Jets QB Wilson completed 14-of-21 passes for 210 yards, and all five New York touchdowns came via the ground. Rookie running back Breece Hall was the star of the show, as he rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown. He also shined in the passing game, as he caught two passes for a total of 100 yards. Defensively, Jets rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner stood out. He recorded his first career interception, and made the hit that knocked Bridgewater out of the game.

Thompson completed 19-of-33 passes for 166 yards and one interception in his first NFL action aside from preseason play. Raheem Mostert was someone who kept the Dolphins’ offense afloat, as he rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown. Tyreek Hill caught seven passes for 47 yards.

The 3-2 Dolphins return to Miami next week, and will host the 4-1 Minnesota Vikings. As for the 3-2 Jets, they will hit the road to take on the 3-2 Green Bay Packers.

  • Aaron Judge Is The New Home Run King!

Aaron Judge Is The New Home Run King!

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the 2022 MLB season on Tuesday night, breaking the American League single-season home run record.

Judge hit a leadoff homer in the first inning of Yankees’ game against the Texas Rangers, giving New York a 1-0 lead in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Last month, the 30-year-old tied the record set by Roger Maris in 1961 in the Yankees’ 8-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays, having previously hit his 60th home run — which tied a previous record set by Babe Ruth in 1927 — during New York’s 9-8 walk-off win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 20 at Yankee Stadium.

Judge also managed to hit 60 home runs in fewer games than both Yankee legends, which has long been a debate over the validity of Maris’ record.

Ruth had initially set the record in 154 games, while Maris broke the  record in 162 games after the league had previously extended the total amount of games in a season.

Judge hit his 60th home run in 147 games and his 61st in 155 games.

  • Rams’ Aaron Donald Adds To Legacy With 100th Career Sack

Rams’ Aaron Donald Adds To Legacy With 100th Career Sack

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald added another accolade to his legacy, notching his 100th career sack with a takedown of Cardinals QB Kyler Murray.

Donald is only the seventh active player to reach the 100-sack milestone, joining six players all drafted multiple years before him. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is coming off five consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks despite primarily playing as an interior defensive lineman.

Donald came close to retiring after only eight seasons this past offseason, even going as far as submitting a retirement letter to the Rams, but the two sides agreed to a revised contract. Donald revealed in August that he plans to play at least two more seasons, citing the new contract.

Donald has won three Defensive Player of the Year awards, just like Lawrence Taylor, who had 142 sacks.
