    Patriots Beat the Jets, 15-10

The Patriots beat the Jets 15-10 at a rainy MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

It wasn’t pretty, but Mac Jones and the Patriots managed to land enough punches on offense to ground the Jets and a woeful offense commanded by Zach Wilson.

The Patriots are now 1-2 this season, while the Jets fall to 1-2.

It wasn’t exactly a riveting performance from Mac Jones and the Patriots offense, but the Patriots’ defense feasted against an impotent Jets offense that more or less operated without a functioning game.

But regardless of whatever qualifiers you want to toss out there, the Patriots did enough to get in the win column with a 15-10 victory against a deeply flawed Jets roster without Aaron Rodgers at the helm on offense.

How bad was Zach Wilson and the Jets’ offense?

The Jets generated just 171 total net yards, with most coming in the fourth quarter. Wilson was 18-of-36 on throws with 157 passing yards.

  • Giants Rally to Beat Cardinals

    Giants Rally to Beat Cardinals

The New York Giants beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-28.

They entered the Week 2 game against the Cardinals and the first two quarters were an extension of the Week 1 beatdown at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys with Arizona scoring on all but one drive and taking a 20-0 lead into halftime.

The futility was highlighted by a Daniel Jones interception that went right off the hands of running back Saquon Barkley for the second consecutive week.

The Giants did come out in the third quarter and show some fire on the shoulders of Jones, but each time they punched, the Cardinals punched right back.

Then came the fourth quarter and that’s when DJ completely took over and the game flipped on its head. Everything that had gone wrong was washed away and the Giants suddenly started firing.

The defense picked up stops when they needed it and the Giants offense, which couldn’t buy a point for six quarters to start the season, scored on five consecutive drives.

  • Cowboys 30, Jets 10

    Cowboys 30, Jets 10

In the New York Jets’ second game of the 2023 NFL season, in a sunny and hot Arlington Texas, the Jets were dominated by the Dallas Cowboys, 30 – 10.

The first half action was dominated by the Cowboys, who moved the ball at will against the vaunted Jets defense. Only a long catch-and-run touchdown pass from Zach Wilson to Garrett Wilson saved the Jets from being down 15 points at halftime.

With the score Cowboys 18, Jets 10, the Jets took over on offense at their own 25 to start the second half. They promptly went three and out, as the Jets offense continued to look overmatched against the Cowboys defense. The ensuing Jets punt gave the Cowboys a short field as they started their first drive of the second half at their own 42 yard line. The Cowboys took advantage.

The Jets could do nothing and after another Jets punt the Cowboys methodically moved downfield before settling for a short field goal and a three score lead at 27 – 10 early in the fourth quarter. At this point the game was all but over.

The Cowboys intercepted Zach Wilson on the next Jets drive, giving them the ball deep in Jets territory yet again. Another Cowboys field goal made the score 30 -10 in favor of the Cowboys midway through the fourth quarter and the rest was garbage time.

  • Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Out For Season

Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Out For Season

The Jets got the news they were expecting but dreading Tuesday morning.

An MRI exam confirmed quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a torn left Achilles tendon that will require season-ending surgery, a source confirmed.

The Jets’ dream season has turned into a nightmare.

Rodgers was injured on his fourth play against the Bills on Monday night when Buffalo defensive end Leonard Floyd sacked him in the eventual 22-16 Jets win.

Slow motion replays showed a pop in Rodgers calf as the Achilles ruptured. Rodgers initially got up and limped a few steps. He then seemed to realize what happened and sat down on the field.

Jets coach Robert Saleh said after the game the team feared it was Rodgers’ Achilles and the tests Tuesday confirmed that.

It is a stunning end to Rodgers’ season.

  • Jets Win Thriller vs. Bills 22-16

Jets Win Thriller vs. Bills 22-16

The New York Jets, even as their prized, four-time MVP offseason acquisition in Aaron Rodgers was knocked out of the game on the team’s first offensive series, unseated the Buffalo Bills on Monday night in a come-from-behind victory, 22-16.

But they needed overtime and a 65-yard punt return touchdown from Xavier Gipson to do it.

Behind safety Jordan Whitehead’s three interceptions off Bills quarterback Josh Allen, New York’s defense anchored the team and allowed backup Zach Wilson and the offense to hang around and make enough plays to set up a game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen, however, led a nine-play, 43-yard drive that ended with Buffalo placekicker Tyler Bass doinking through a 50-yard kick to tie the game, sending it into overtime.

The Bills were first to receive the ball but went three-and-out and punted the ball to Gipson, who broke a tackle and then weaved past the entire Bills unit for the game-winning score.

  • Cowboys Blowout Giants 40-0

    Cowboys Blowout Giants 40-0

The Dallas Cowboys came into East Rutherford and dominated out of the gate en route to a 40-0 win. It was the Giants’ worst shutout loss at  home in franchise history and the Cowboys’ largest shutout win in their  franchise history.

This game was over with pretty early on. The Giants put together a solid opening drive that saw the ball travel down to the Dallas 8-yard line but were unable to punch it in for a touchdown. To make matters worse, the field goal attempt was blocked by the Cowboys, and Noah Igbinoghene scooped up the loose ball and went 58 yards to the house. That lit the wick for Dallas as it went on a 26-0 run to leave New York in the dust by halftime.

The Cowboys QB was 13 for 24 passing for 143 yards. Tony Pollard led Dallas with 70 yards rushing and CeeDee Lamb caught all four of his targets for 77 yards. Meanwhile, Daniel Jones completed 15 of his 28 passes for 104 yards and two interceptions. Saquon Barkley rushed 12 times for 51 yards and caught three of his four targets for 12 yards.

  • Carmelo Anthony Retires From NBA

    Carmelo Anthony Retires From NBA

Former NBA All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from basketball.

“Now the time has come for me to say goodbye to the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride,” Anthony said.

“With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA, I am excited about what the future holds for me.”

Anthony, 39, a former national champion at Syracuse, was selected No. 3 overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draft and spent his first eight seasons with the franchise before being traded to the New York Knicks midway through the 2010-11 season, where he played for seven seasons. The Brooklyn native had later stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony retires ninth on the NBA all-time scoring list with 28,289 career points during his career. The former Syracuse standout was a 10-time All-Star, a scoring champion in 2013 and a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

  • New York Yankees Sweep Houston Astros!

New York Yankees Sweep Houston Astros!

It was a whirlwind weekend for Jasson Dominguez, who beamed broadly as he stood in front of his locker in the visiting clubhouse late on Sunday evening, recounting the previous 72 hours in which “The Martian” seemed to make himself right at home in Space City.

Having already hit a home run off likely future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander with his first swing in the Majors, Domínguez delivered again, blasting a go-ahead home run that helped power the suddenly youthful Yankees to a 6-1 victory and a rare sweep of the Astros at Minute Maid Park.

Domínguez launched a two-run blast in the sixth inning off Houston starter Cristian Javier, helping propel New York to its first three-game sweep of Houston since Sept. 27-29, 2013.

This has not been the most fun of seasons for the Yankees. They have been an unenjoyable watch for the majority of this year. That, however, was not the case this weekend.

Thanks to a recent infusion of youth, the Yankees at the very least made themselves a source of intrigue for the three-game set at Minute Maid Park. They turned out to be more than just a curiosity, though, as they churned out a couple compelling victories and capped it off with a 6-1 win to sweep the Astros, their first of Houston in a decade.

  • Mets Beat Mariners With Strong Pitching

Mets Beat Mariners With Strong Pitching

Mauricio made his MLB debut and handled himself well. A natural shortstop, the infielder started at second base and made every defensive play hit his way including a nifty double play in the third inning.

But he was just as impressive at the plate. In his first at-bat, Mauricio launched a double 117 mph off the bat. It’s the hardest hit ball by a Met this season. In his second at-bat, Mauricio struck out swinging on three pitches, but picked up a single in his third AB. The infielder finished 2-for-3.

Mauricio became the first Met to have multiple hits in his MLB debut since Steven Matz — yes, the pitcher — in June 2015.

Brett Baty returned as the third baseman. His offensive struggles continued but that could have been a product of Mariners starter Logan Gilbert who was on his game.

Kodai Senga was masterful again, keeping the red-hot Mariners off balance with his wide array of pitches and fooling them with his patented ghost fork.
