After splitting the first two games, the Mets failed to win the series-clinching game against the Phillies on Sunday night, losing 6-2 in the final at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Mets picked up right where they left off last night in this one, as they spotted the Phils a 5-0 lead in the first two innings. The Phillies scored an unearned run off Mets starter David Peterson as Peterson walked Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber to get in instant trouble.

New York has had a season full of lowlights, but this was one of the worst. Losing series is nothing new for the Mets, but the way the Mets lost this one was truly remarkable, as they were embarrassed last night and became an afterthought after the first three innings of this one. 

The Mets record is now 34-43, last in the NL East division by 5.5 games and 6.0 games out of an NL Wild Card spot.

For the Mets, Kodai Senga (9.00 ERA, 1.88 WHIP in 24 innings) is set to make his second start since returning from injury.

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady shared a tribute to his longtime former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The Carolina Hurricanes won the NHL’s Stanley Cup after beating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 on Sunday in Las Vegas.

The Hurricanes wrapped up the best-of-seven series with a game to spare, winning 4-2 to secure their second crown.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour, who lifted the Stanley Cup as Carolina’s captain in 2006, led the Hurricanes into the play-offs as the top seed in the Eastern Conference and only lost three matches as they saw off the Ottawa Senators, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Montreal Canadiens and the Golden Knights en route to the title.

“I think it was just our time. We weren’t going to be denied,” Brind’Amour said.

Carolina captain Jordan Staal, a two-time Stanley Cup champion after previously winning with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, became the oldest player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the play-offs. The 37-year-old scored eight goals and registered four assists in the Hurricanes’ championship run.

The NFL announced it will host its first-ever regular season game in Paris, France, during the 2026 season, adding more countries to its international slate.

The New Orleans Saints have been named as the participating “home” team against the Cleveland Browns at the Stade de France, the country’s national stadium.

“Bringing a regular season game to Paris in 2026 marks an exciting next step in the continued expansion of the league’s global footprint,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Paris is one of the world’s greatest sporting and cultural cities with tremendous success in hosting global events.”  

“Playing our first‑ever regular season game at the impressive Stade de France, together with the New Orleans Saints, underlines our continued global growth ambitions and we look forward to bringing the NFL to our passionate fans in France.”

The NFL has confirmed eight international games in 2026, which also includes one in Melbourne, Australia; one in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; one in Munich, Germany; three in London, England and one in Madrid, Spain.
