The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football, 22-9. Though both teams entered the contest in search of their first win, New York’s up-and-comers were no match for Kansas City’s veteran leadership during the primetime matchup.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 22 of his 37 pass attempts for 224 yards and a touchdown against the Giants’ secondary.
The Giants’ fanbase was clearly frustrated during their home opener, as Russell Wilson threw two interceptions and was held to just 160 passing yards.
Standout linebacker Nick Bolton was among Kansas City’s top defensive performers, with 14 combined tackles in the game.
The New York Jets had a classic Jets outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tampa (3-0) took a 29-27 win over New York in a close contest. It did not feel that close but somehow the Jets stuck around and even took the lead late.
Then it happened. The Jets defense could not hold the Bucs offense and they kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.
In the end, it was another ending that has been seen all too often in New York.
The loss brings the Jets’ record to 0-3 to start the 2025 season. Now the Jets move on to preparing for a road game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football next week.
The Buffalo Bills cruised to a comfortable 30-10 victory over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
The Bills jumped out to an early lead and coasted behind an efficient offensive performance and dominant defensive play.
James Cook led the way with two rushing touchdowns. Cook made a sensational, ankle-breaking 44-yard rush in the second quarter to add to the highlight reel from an otherwise quiet and workmanlike performance.
The Bills defense didn’t allow the Jets near the end zone until garbage time. Buffalo’s defense, playing without Ed Oliver, Taron Johnson, and Maxwell Hairston, held the Jets to under 100 total yards well into the fourth quarter.
Justin Fields completed just 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards before leaving the game with a concussion early in the fourth quarter.
The New York Giants fell to 0-2 on Sunday with a 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Giants have now lost 16 of 17 games to the Cowboys.
After a long Russell Wilson pass was intercepted by Donovan Wilson of the Cowboys with 2:00 left in overtime, Brandon Aubrey hit a 46-yard field goal on the game’s final play to give Dallas the victory. The Cowboys moved 42 yards in four plays to set up the winning kick.
Dallas had the ball three times and the Giants twice in overtime.
“This one hurts,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “This one’s tough. These guys battled.
“Our guys gave everything they had.”
Wilson went 30 of 41 for 450 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception.
Robinson had 8 catches for a career-best 142 yards. It was only the second 100-yard receiving game of Robinson’s four-year career.
Malik Nabers had 9 catches for 170 yards and a 48-yard fourth-quarter score.
The Giants had 506 yards of total offense. Dallas had 478.
The Giants had 14 penalties for 160 yards. The Cowboys committed 12 penalties, costing them 106 yards.
