Bills Overcome Elements, Beat Jets 20-12

Josh Allen threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score on consecutive possessions and the Buffalo Bills persevered through wet, chilly and windy conditions to beat a banged-up Mike White and the AFC East-rival New York Jets 20-12 on Sunday.

Allen’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Dawson Knox in the closing minute of the second quarter led to Buffalo scoring on four consecutive drives, capped by a pair of field goals by Tyler Bass, including a 49-yarder.

The AFC-leading Bills (10-3) won their fourth straight since a two-game skid, which included a 20-17 loss at the Jets. Buffalo has won at least 10 of its first 13 games for the seventh time in franchise history.

The Jets (7-6) have lost four of six in a slump that has made their  playoff chances shaky. New York, which hasn’t qualified for the postseason since 2010, entered the week as the AFC’s seventh seed, a win ahead of New England and the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Jets essentially ran out of time to complete a comeback bid. After Greg Zuerlein hit a 26-yard field goal with 1:18 remaining, New York got the ball back at its own 21 with 46 seconds left but Mike White threw four consecutive incompletions.

He finished 27 of 44 for 268 yards and no turnovers, a year after he threw four interceptions in a 45-17 loss to the Bills.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Will Tap the XFL’s TV Potential

The XFL has new owners — and they plan to tackle their investment with Hollywood flair.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and a group of investors have scooped up the football league for just $15 million in a deal approved by a US bankruptcy judge.

But instead of rushing to push players back onto the gridiron, Johnson — teaming up with his ex-wife and business manager Dany Garcia and the prolific sports banker Gerry Cardinale — are drawing up plans to remake the XFL into an entertainment powerhouse.

That means potentially creating reality-TV programming akin to HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” which follows an NFL team, introducing viewers to players and coaches. Indeed, the XFL is considering a similar show that would span the whole season.

Likewise, the group aims to capitalize on Johnson’s star power not only as a box-office draw, but also as a former college football player and a WWE wrestler. One possibility is to bring the XFL into storylines on Johnson’s current HBO show “Ballers,” in which he plays a retired NFL star turned business manager.

The plans are in the early stages with the league eyeing a 2021 return. The relaunch will mean new broadcasting deals, and we expect some exciting developments.

New York Rangers Expectations

Despite their shooting slump, the Rangers are a playoff team. There are cries that this “is not a playoff team” and that “there is no offense” and “they can’t score.” The hyperbolic doom and gloom surrounding the Rangers occurs every season, just this season it’s happened earlier than usual. But the Rangers are a playoff team. They were when the season started. They are still one now.

Emotions run wild early in the season, especially as the Rangers look to cement themselves as true contenders after a great season last year. They have expectations this season, unlike last season, and it is easy to overreact. We are, after all, human. But a deep breath and some critical thinking is all it takes to realize the Rangers are a playoff team, and nothing has changed due to a .500 start.

The only thing that can keep the Rangers out of the playoffs is themselves. They have certainly played down to their opponents lately after dominating both Tampa and Minnesota to start the season. If not for an epic gaffe by Igor Shesterkin, they likely beat Colorado in one of the more entertaining games of the year as well. The Rangers will right the ship against Dallas and Arizona.

QB Mike White Leads Jets Over Bears

Mike White got the hero’s treatment as he walked from the Jets’ locker room to the player’s parking lot after Sunday’s 31-10 win over the Bears.

White had just thrown for 315 yards and three touchdowns in his first start this season in place of Zach Wilson. White made the Jets’ offense look fun and functional and threw the ball to a whopping 10 different teammates.

“He made the easy look easy,” coach Robert Saleh said. That is something Zach Wilson, the would-be franchise quarterback, has struggled with all season.

White finished 22 of 28 for 315 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jets gained a season-high 466 total yards, a week after gaining only 103 against the Patriots. Yes, it was against a terrible Bears team that was missing two starters in the secondary entering the game and lost another in the second quarter. But the Jets aren’t apologizing for that.
